Blogger Meet Up - Hot Summer 2007 Re-Mix

OK, there seems to be quite a bit of interest in scheduling the next Lewisham Bloggers Meet Up for July.

NOW BEING HELD ON FRIDAY 13TH - SEE BELOW

There has been a suggestion that we make it a BBQ, which would imply a weekend (maybe) and possibly even partners and families. I am relaxed about that, I am sure I can sort out the space if this is what we want - and if the weather cooperates.

On the other hand, as Michael pointed out, this might be a bit much of a commitment for potential first-time attendees - they have no idea quite how nice we really are, yet.

So, I'd like your votes/comments on the following options, please, and I trust these will not conflict with the BrockleyCentral gathering.

Option 1
13 July :: Friday (the 13th!) drinks at The Honor Oak, Brockley Rise, from 18:00

Option 2
14 July :: Saturday BBQ (late lunch/early dinner) at my place in central Forest Hill, for bloggers and whatever significant other / child / friend / mate / acquaintance / attractive stranger / ... they wish to bring along (within reason)

Any blogger from Lewisham or surrounds is more than welcome to join us. Spread the word.

[IMPORTANT UPDATE]

After lots of chasing and checking, it seems that the 13th is the best after all. THAT IS IT. NO MORE CHANGES. Be there on Friday the 13th!!

Don't you think that with option 2 (demolition and rebuild) you're exposing yourself to one of those gate crushing teenagers nightmares that one hears happens when one organises a party on myspace?

With that risk in mind and also for the fact that I've never been to the Honor Oak and considering also that it is always attractive to ignore superstitions I vote for Friday 13th at Honor Oak.

Could be that I'll be away that weekend.

Option 2 also clashes with Lewisham People's Day, so option 1 please.

Good point Max. I did sort of have that alarm going off in the back of my mind when I posted that, but ... you know what I mean

Andrew - does that include the Friday night?

Sue - oops! I hadn't seen that date in the diary.

Do we need alternative weekday nights? Getting a suitable date for these things is such a nightmare! Can I ask that those who CANNOT make these dates suggest some alternatives when they can (that work for them) so at least we are gathering data on best dates?

A good point about People's Day and it is looking likely that I have a gig on the Saturday so, much as I love the idea of a BBQ, I think I'll stick another hand up for Friday 13th instead.

I might be away that weekend too - but only if the weather's nice, so I'd vote for option 1, as bad weather would not be good for option 2. (Lots of people have been mysteriously telling me that July 15 will be the only nice weather day this summer...)

Another factor to bear in mind is that the Honor Oak gets pretty crowded on a Friday night. I haven't been there on a Thursday night, but that might be better? So:

Taking up the challenge of suggesting other dates, how about a radical suggestion of the 12th at the Honor Oak?

thanks Bob

I had thought I'd be busy on the 12th, but as it turns out I am not, so it is an option for me too.

I know the boys at the Honor Oak and I can reserve a table so it should be OK even on Friday, but it might be hard to chat as well on a loud and busy night.

As the date is approaching I think we need more action on this one. I will email those I have/can get emails for but can we have a show of hands here as well for the 12th or 13th (the Saturday option is off the menu by the looks of it)??

right - I've fired off lots of comments and emails.

Max is OK for the 12th, I assume Bob is and I am too. It is a start.

I'm pretty sure I can do Thursday 12th...

Andrew Brown said...

I've got a meeting that evening (12th), but will try to come along after that if at all possible.

sorry, also have a meeting then, and it's at my home, so I can't sneak out early and join you either! Nevermind, hope it goes well.

I'd love to join you all but Thursday 12th is right out; on babysitting duties. Could do Friday 13th but if not, definitely join in next time.

P.S. Do I lose points having moved just over Blythe Hill to SE6? You might make me sit in the corner on my own by the fruit machine :)

no - we are a welcoming group and it is for Lewisham and surrounds. You are safe with us

There is now a possibility of switching back to the Friday as quite a few cannot do the 12th. I'll let you know, but check back here or on facebook (are you on that?) if you can.

I might have a jazz gig over in Twickenham (too far to suggest a relocation!) on Thursday (that was the thought nagging in the back of my mind) but am about 90% probable for that day; alternatively, Friday 13 would be great.

Now I feel guilty for suggesting the 12th. My camping trip is looking increasingly unlikely, what with Britain not having a summer this year (snow in Battersea this week, eh?), so 13th is looking better for me. I'll go with the majority!

Robert McIntosh said...

no worries. I probably shouldn't have changed, but I agreed with the idea. I think the 13th now looks most likely if I can get anyone else to respond to this suggestion ... anyone?

Wulf said...

Definitely for 13 July.

Robert McIntosh said...

OK, officially moved to the 13th. Check out the facebook event details and I will post a confirmation as well

sorry for chopping and changing

Great, as far as I know, I'm in. See you there as near to 6pm as I can. Now, which is the 'bloggers beer'..

Apologies - it looks like I'm not going to be able to make it now. :-(

Shame! I saw your post about being busy.

Too busy to drink with us - now THAT really is busy!
